Creative West

Creative West is the proposed cultural precinct for Footscray's west, a project that needed public momentum before a single sod was turned. The campaign's centrepiece is a four-minute community film built around five distinct local voices: a Wurundjeri Elder, a market vendor, a working artist, a parent, and a music student. Architectural renders appear only after the community's case for them is fully made, demanded by the chorus that precedes them.

Shot across four June days in Footscray, the film works with the specific qualities of Melbourne winter light, sideways afternoon gold through market corridors, blue-grey overcast that makes faces glow. Natural light throughout, handheld or locked tripod, 35mm and 50mm primes. No gimbals, no sliders.
