Studio, location or AI hybrid? Choosing how to shoot your next campaign
A few honest questions about the place, the timing and the camera usually make the choice for you.
The right way to shoot a campaign comes down to a few questions about the place, the timing and the camera. Answer them honestly and the choice usually makes itself.
| Question | Points to location | Points to studio | Points to AI hybrid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Does the real place matter to the brand? | Yes, it’s the story | No | No, any convincing place works |
| Can you get there? | Easily, close by | Not needed | Far away, closed or unsafe |
| Does it need a season or weather? | You can wait for it | Not needed | You can’t wait a year |
| What does the camera do? | Moves a drone or rig can make | Controlled and repeatable | A move no rig can make |
| How many places? | One or two | One set | Many, from one shoot day |
What doesn’t change with hybrid
The people are still real and still the point. The performance, the casting, the lighting and the edit are the same craft as any Kilogram shoot. Hybrid only replaces the location.
What it costs
We scope a hybrid job against the traditional version of the same shoot, so you can compare the two line by line. On big or impossible settings, taking out travel, permits and set builds usually saves a lot. On a simple local shoot it often won’t, and we’ll tell you.
Start with the shot
Bring us the idea and the shot you think can’t be done. We’ll come back with what is best in camera, what is best hybrid, and what each costs.
